My English Course (2)

On Tuesday 26 April 2016, My lecture give us two article to be discussed. The articles discussing about "Career Trends" (click here) and "The 10 Skills You'll Need for the Job in 2020" (click here). We have to read both articles and share our opinions by following some questions below:

1. In what perspectives are you going to be when there is a statement "if a job can easily be automated, replaced by technology, then it probably will be"? Explain your answer.

2. From the article about 10 skills for getting job in 2020, which are being your most important skill that will be relevant to your most wanted job in the future? Explain your answer.

So, my opinion is:

1. The rapidly growing of technology is giving a big impact to all of our life aspect no exception on the job. A statement "if a job can easily be automated, replaced by technology, then it probably will be." can be interpreted in many points of view. First, we should know that we use technology to try to change the world to suit us better. Technology has made for simplifying our live, make everything easier and faster. But the results of changing the world are often complicated and unpredictable. Therefore anticipating the effects of technology is important as advancing its capabilities. If technology replaces any repetitive job that's not a big problem if we can see other opportunities in this modern technology era. We can use technology to provide the job, for example GoJek are a transportation that powered by technology and that make's drivers allowed to have more income than usual drivers. There also some job that previously did not exist, but now appear because of technology, for example app developer, web developer, computer programmer, even YouTube. And I believe that if technology rapidly growing the demand of developing the technology itself are high too that's why people nowadays must have tech savvy to survive in this era. One that we may forget is there are some job that can't take along with technology because technology is not same like human being which can feel, understanding people and have an intuition. So, we should see thetechnology as a volition. The volition depends on you.

2. Accordingly, to the article about 10 skills for getting a job in 2020, the most important skill that will be relevant to my dream job is 'Cognitive load management'. This skill is needed for me because it's important to understand how to manage my cognitive and maximize the function. My future job is becoming an engineer, so that's a skill that I think is needed for me.

And my friend Gioffry Gifary give a feedback :

Can i ask a question? with technology-related jobs increasingly dominating the market, how can people in less developed/rural areas can keep up with this trend? Should they stay on their current path (ex : farming) or can they somehow make advantage of opportunities in technology? If so, how would they do it? Thank you

Then I reply:

Thank you Geoffry for the question. It depends on the condition. They can stay on their current path and use technology to provide it. For example, if they were a merchant, that have their real shop, they can make an online shop to get more consumers and promote their shop. Or they can make advantage of opportunities in technology and leave their current path. If they stuck with their income in their current path why don't leave the current job and making their own business and provide it with technology. We know that's will not be easy but like a proverb 'a smooth sea never made a skillful sailor'. So whether you want it or not you've to survive in this modern era. The role of government is important. They should pay more attention to less developed/rural areas. The last condition is they can stay on their current path because however technology can't replace some repetitive job because technology is not the same with human beings. For example a teacher, chef, or farmer that uses an intuitive that technology now can't provide.

What do you thing? Let me know by comment on the box bellow. Thank you!
